The lecture will demonstrate how various implants are used to rehabilitate patients in secondary care via an MDT environment. We will look at both fixed and removable prosthodontic solutions and novel rehabilitations including the use of zygomatic and cranio-facial implants.

aIMS

Explain and demonstrate how various types of site-specific implants are used to rehabilitate primarily head and neck cancer patients in an NHS hospital environment.

Objectives

  • Explain the various options available to rehabilitate patients after ablative surgery in the hospital setting.
  • Demonstrate various techniques, using cases, to rehabilitate maxillary and mandibular deficiencies.
  • Brief overview of craniofacial rehabilitation using implants.

Biography

David spends his working week as an NHS Consultant in Oral Rehabilitation at York Hospital and offers a specialist service focussing on implants at the Dental Health Practice, Malton. His time in the hospital is primarily spent providing oral rehabilitation for head and neck cancer patients.

David is chief investigator, co-chief investigator and principal investigator for multiple randomised controlled trials, he is a published author in multiple peer reviewed scientific journals and currently has over 700 citations. He is the Research Champion for the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance, North Yorkshire and The Humber.

David is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, is the lead examiner for the Membership in Prosthodontics examination and sits on the Speciality Advisory Board for Restorative Dentistry at the college.
