WHY ATTEND
Join us again in the Republic of Ireland – Dublin on 29 April 2027 as we continue our Study Club series into 2027. We look forward to welcoming implant professionals from across Ireland for an evening of education, networking and collaboration.
Be part of our existing chapter for the ADI and connect with fellow impant professionals from across Ireland.
This Study Club will explore whether fully guided implant surgery should now be considered the standard of care in modern implant dentistry. Drawing on eight years of exclusive experience with guided implant placement, Dr Martin Attariani will share the clinical, digital and restorative advantages of a fully guided workflow, while providing practical insights into its implementation, limitations and real-world application.

Talk Summary
Drawing on eight years of exclusively guided implant surgery, Dr Martin Attariani compares conventional freehand implant placement with a fully guided digital workflow and asks a provocative question: should freehand implant placement still be the default approach in modern implant dentistry?
Through a series of clinical cases, the lecture explores the advantages of prosthetically driven planning, greater surgical precision, minimally invasive treatment, enhanced patient comfort and more predictable restorative outcomes.
Dr Attariani will take delegates through the complete digital workflow, from diagnosis, CBCT and intra-oral scanning to digital planning, guide design and surgical execution, supported by current evidence examining the accuracy and predictability of guided implant surgery.
Real-world cases will demonstrate how these principles can be successfully incorporated into everyday implant practice, while also highlighting the limitations, potential sources of error and practical considerations that clinicians need to understand when adopting a fully guided approach.
Whether placing a first implant or refining an established workflow, delegates will gain practical insights into implementing fully guided surgery safely and confidently.
This lecture is not simply a demonstration of guided surgery, it is a challenge to rethink implant placement in modern dentistry. After eight years of placing every implant using a fully guided workflow, Dr Attariani explains why he has never looked back.
Learning objectives
By the end of this lecture, delegates should be able to:
- Understand the rationale for fully guided implant surgery - compare freehand and fully guided implant placement and understand the potential advantages of prosthetically driven digital planning.
- Recognise the clinical and patient benefits - understand how guided surgery can facilitate surgical precision, minimally invasive treatment, efficient workflows and an improved patient experience.
- Understand the fully digital workflow - identify the key stages from CBCT and intra-oral scanning through digital planning, guide design and surgical execution, including potential sources of error.
- Evaluate implementation in everyday practice - recognise the equipment, training and workflow changes required to incorporate fully guided implant surgery safely and predictably into clinical practice.
