ADI recognises outstanding contributions to implant dentistry

While networking and enjoying time with friends during a Bridgerton-inspired gala dinner, as part of the ADI Team Congress 2025, the outstanding contributions of key individuals in the field were celebrated.

Awards were presented by current ADI President, Dr Zaki Kanaan, to four individuals who helped shape the beginnings of the association, recognising their hard work and commitment over the past almost four decades. A huge heartfelt thank you again to the following recipients:

Dr Barry Edwards

The first President of the ADI, Barry was integral to establishing the association’s key aims, objectives and ethos. His practice hosted ADI council meetings for the first few years. With the support of colleagues, Barry also set up the inaugural ADI conference, inviting speakers from around the world.

Dr Ashok Sethi

The second President of the ADI, Ashok kept the spotlight on education in order to promote the safe and effective delivery of dental implant treatment in the UK. Patients were put front and centre, encouraging dentists to improve their quality of life with what was still a brand-new treatment modality at the time.

Professor Edwin Scher

The Presidency was next handed to Edwin, who considered the association to have an important role in educating both the profession and the general public. He was also passionate about engaging general dental practitioners with an interest in new dental solutions so that dental implantology may grow.

Dr Norman Mills

By the early 1990s, dental implantology had become more widely understood and respected, but Norman still had plenty to do in bringing in more clinicians to provide care to patients. He described his presidency term as “one of the most exciting and clinically challenging periods” of his professional life.

In addition to the above, Honorary ADI Membership was also awarded to Dr Tidu Mankoo in light of his on-going contributions to the association over many years.

Finally, Zaki thanked the ADI team for all that they do behind the scenes to keep the ADI operating smoothly and to deliver such a fantastic event. Special mentions were made for Executive Director Richard Cantillon, Head of Marketing Owain Wilson, and Events Manager Sasha Dickson.
