Introducing Dr Andrew Little as ADI Secretary

As the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) turns 40 in 2027, the Board is delighted to welcome Dr Andrew Little as Honorary Secretary.

Having qualified from Queen’s University Belfast in 2008 with a BDS Honours degree, Dr Little returned to Banbridge where he has worked, in his family practice before opening Precision Implant Clinic.  He looks back to the start of his implant journey:

“My time with the ADI goes back many, many years – in 2005 I was a student and my father, a dentist at the start of his implant career, took me along to an ADI Study Clubs and Events. After graduating I got involved with dental implantology, becoming a full member in 2011 and started attending ADI Study Clubs. Whilst I thank my father for the early exposure to implants, my experience grew via meeting senior colleagues, ADI events, courses and mentors, and as a clinician I saw the positive difference that a dental implant can make to a patient’s life, and this is why I have found this area so fulfilling.

“By 2015, I was going to every Masterclass, study club, so I could to hear from renowned experts and leading figures from the dental implant community. I looked up to many of these clinicians and admired the role that they played in shaping other people’s education, but I never thought I would become one until, I was elected to the ADI Board as the Regional Representative for Northern Ireland.

“I have really enjoyed my time on the Board, helping to organise popular events and webinars that also appeal to dental hygienists and dental technicians too – implant skills and knowledge are for all members of the team. It is a great opportunity to get involved and see dentistry from a new perspective; one where you are giving back to the profession to better support up and coming talent.

“I am honoured to take on the role of Secretary of the ADI. It is a wonderful and exciting prospect that I hope will make a positive impact on the day-to-day operations of the ADI. The goal is to keep everything running smoothly and maintain and enhance the communication between the ADI team and the Board so that we can deliver the very best value to our membership. For now, the focus is on continuing the momentum of the excellent work that is already occurring. This includes extending our membership support to Ireland, with an ADI study club scheduled there to start our journey.

“If you are a member of the ADI or perhaps a dental professional looking to begin your journey into the world of implantology, I cannot recommend enough the value of getting involved with the educational sessions delivered by the ADI. Find your local Study Club and head along to one – there is so much to learn and connecting with like-minded people is always beneficial. Living in Northern Ireland, there weren’t as many Study Clubs in my early years but, in the time since, we have had more and they are superb environments to talk to people and base your learning on what other ADI members have done.

“The ADI Masterclasses and larger events like the ADI Team Congress (which takes place every two years) expose you to research on a global level. There is no shortage of inspiration because of the brilliant line-up of speakers each event always has. Being given the opportunity to watch and learn from someone more senior is invaluable; you can take so much from other clinicians and I admit that I didn’t do this enough at the start of my career! Building a network, making friends and surrounding yourself with strong individuals means you don’t start as an island. Implants are not for sole workers and the ADI gives you the community to ensure you flourish.

“The ADI is turning 40 and I am really excited about reaching this incredible milestone and seeing what the next chapter of the ADI brings, as well as being proud that, as Secretary, I can be a part of it all.”
