Introducing Dr Faresh Desai as ADI Treasurer

As the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) approaches its 40-year anniversary in 2027, the Board is delighted to welcome Dr Faresh Desai as Treasurer.

Upon completion of his BDS degree from the University of Birmingham in 2002, Dr Desai gained Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (MFGDP) from the Royal College of Surgeons. In 2004, Dr Faresh’s dental implant journey started and, not long after, he joined the ADI. What followed was two successful decades in dentistry, focusing on restorative dentistry and dental implantology. Dr Desai reflects on his dental implant experience thus far:

“My dental implant journey started very early, around 2004, sparked by an interest in the unique nature of every patient and the ability to develop and apply my surgical and restorative skills to a variety of real cases. It was during my involvement in a Study Club that I first heard of the ADI, from like-minded clinicians who were also pursuing postgraduate training opportunities to increase their knowledge of implant dentistry. The clinicians I met through attending the ADI events evolved into friendships that have lasted to this day.

“In fact, it was the ability to build a network of peers who had been on the dental implant circuit for a long time, and who I could bounce ideas off, that stands out as one of the main benefits of becoming an ADI member.

“By 2024, I had been an active part of the ADI for over 15 years, attending Study Clubs, conferences and courses. At this time, I had achieved some career milestones, having co-founded a private dental group, where I am Clinical Director. When the position of Regional Representative for West Central England on the ADI Board became available, I saw it as an opportunity to give something back and support the organisation that has been – and continues to be – invaluable to my dental implant journey. This was effectively the first stepping stone to increasing my involvement with the ADI and taking on more responsibility within the organisation, which I always wanted to do.

“I enjoyed acting as Regional Representative for the ADI, and now that the Treasurer position has become available, I believe my skillset will lend itself to the role. With 20 years’ experience running my business and providing restorative dentistry and dental implantology, I thought it was the perfect time to apply my clinical and business experience to support the ADI.

“I aim to build on the legacy of previous and current Board members to promote excellence and increase awareness of the ADI to dentists starting out in implant dentistry. We want to ensure that existing members, and longstanding members (like myself!), are getting the value that they deserve from their membership of the ADI. This means creating opportunities for members to actively contribute to what the ADI is all about.

“Beyond increasing awareness of the ADI among young dentists, we have an opportunity to increase awareness of the profession and the organisation amongst patients. Dental implantology is a competitive market, with patients going abroad in search of cheaper treatment solutions and options. There is an opportunity within the ADI to promote and harness the good work that is going on in the UK, where there are rigorous standards and protocols that all dental implantologists adhere to.”

This brings us to the present day, with the 40-year anniversary of the ADI just around the corner. Dr Desai reflects on this significant milestone:

“To think that the organisation has being going this long is incredible. I am excited to see what we can achieve going forward in terms of potential collaboration with other organisations and bringing new ideas within implant dentistry to the ADI. As an organisation, we can expect lots of good energy from the ADI Team Congress 2027, which I am excited to attend in April next year.”
