Forward motion – the ADI looks to the future

new Generation

The Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) has been leading the way in professional and public education for many years. Most recently, there has been a spotlight on supporting clinicians who are new to the field in order to share best practice and inspire the next generation of implant dentists. The First Five Years Membership has been tailored specifically for clinicians in their initial five years post-qualification, offering access to the ADI network for free (up to two years after GDC registration) or with a 50% discount (three to five years after GDC registration). The topic has also been a highlight for outgoing ADI President, Dr Amit Patel, who has helped to bolster the services available to new dentists in implantology. He says:

“The Next Gen educational programme was a huge hit we had the highest number of young people attend the conference ever, with just under 100 at the Team Congress 2023. The aim was for delegates to learn from colleagues who are still fairly new to the discipline, as well as those with extensive experience, showing the variety of career development options available. I was delighted with the feedback we received and my thanks go to the Next Gen Committee who organised and coordinated the programme. Due to the success of the event, they will be running hands-on roadshows throughout the country, starting in January.

“Of course, the ADI is inclusive of all members of the implant team and our DCP Representatives were amazing for Congress too. Danny Cleary – who is our youngest Dental Technician Representative – and Linzy Baker – our youngest DCP Representative – rose to the challenge to help us deliver exceptional programmes for team members.

“It was amazing to welcome the most attendees we have recorded to date at 1,100 total, with the highest number of DCPs and dental technicians visiting respectively! Welcoming Tim Peake as keynote speaker was a once in a lifetime opportunity and he was every bit as inspiring as I knew he would be. The Star Wars theme that followed was a great way to inject some fun while also furthering our skills with some truly exceptional, world-class speakers. Again, I must say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored my hair cut as well – we raised a fantastic £21,000 for Wells on Wheels, which will make such a life-changing difference to the communities this amazing charity helps. The hair was donated to the Little Princess Trust and two wigs were made for children who are having cancer therapy.”

new Look

While looking forward, the ADI rebranded during Amit’s term as President in order to update its look and be representative of the association it is today. Having started life in 1987 as a small group of dentists who were pretty much the only clinicians providing implants in Britain at that time, the ADI has grown exponentially and become one of the largest dental membership organisations in the UK. The new aesthetic is the result of extensive consultation with members – like everything the ADI does – to ensure it is reflective of members’ wishes and objectives. Amit adds:

“The rebrand gave the ADI a fresh identity that accurately represents who we are today and who we want to be in the future. It shows that we remain progressive and responsive to change in the profession so that we continue to meet the needs of all our members. Our goal is to make the ADI as inclusive and accessible as possible to as many different professionals as we can. Our brand, how we present ourselves, is one aspect of this.”

New Benefits

That’s not the only thing that has been new to the ADI in the past couple of years. New membership benefits have also been added, including; a free implant assessment template with digital note-taking platform, Kiroku; a 15% discount on professional indemnity insurance with Professional Dental Indemnity; and a 20% discount on a Dental Audio Notes subscription software package to support consultations and a discount rate for the Osteocom channel. Amit says:

“Everything we do for and offer our members is designed to facilitate the delivery of implant treatment that is in the best interests of patients. We also want to help streamline and improve the professional workflow, with benefits that make everyday life in practice that little bit easier.”

As Amit steps down as President of the ADI, he concludes:

“It has been a privilege to help steer the ADI over the past couple of years. I would like to thank the fantastic Board, various Committees and head office team who have supported me along the way – without their help the task would have been impossible. There are many people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the association operating smoothly and they all deserve our recognition and gratitude. Thank you again to you all.”
